Management of the Alaskan pollock fishery is “world-class,” said Peter Hajipieris, director of sustainability and external affairs at Birds Eye Iglo, speaking at the recent Billingsgate School Sustainable Seafood Awards 2009 in London.
He has twice offered trips to Fisheries Commissioner Joe Borg to show him how the dynamic pollock fishery works, and told IntraFish he was hopeful the visit would take place at some stage in the near future.
“The pollock catch is set by law. If it falls below a certain biomass, they just shut down the fishery.
