In a recent article published by IntraFish and Fish Farming International it was reported that global feed producer BioMar was working with Kentucky-based nutrition company Alltech using its algae as part of its feed formula for sea bass in Greece.
While BioMar is working with Alltech for its new EFICO Kappa feed, it's not, as previously reported, using algae, but several other functional ingredients produced by the company, which is having great success in the fish's health and growth rates.
After years of consolidation amongst the Greek aquaculture companies, the number of sea bass farms has shrunk from eight to three and profitability has been very low, but BioMar wants to buck that trend, and its officials say that this new feed product could impact production profitability substantially, and at the same time is improve the fish's overall health as well.
