BioMar's objective is to supply feeds for new species and enter new markets. The first practical step has now been taken with its recent investment in a feed producer in Costa Rica.
There, BioMar is building a feed plant northwest in the country under a joint venture with a local partner, which it itself majority-owned by Chilean salmon producer AquaChile.
BioMar already has a joint venture with AquaChile in Chile.
When the plant is finished in 2012, its annual production capacity will be 50,000 metric tons of so-called growth feed for tilapia.
