It’s been a noble effort, but it looks like retail buyers, consumers, the US government and – most of all – attorneys are intent on keeping the flat and foundering US canned tuna sector, well, flat and foundering.

As part of what appears to be a coordinated class-action rollout, another lawsuit – the fifth so far, this one by a sandwich shop – was filed Tuesday against Bumble Bee, Thai Union and Chicken of the Sea.

The suits all make the basic claim: the three major canned tuna brands colluded to fix prices and illegally inflate costs to customers and consumers.
