An important international coastal states meeting in London beginning Oct. 23 will seek to reach agreement on Iceland’s share of the mackerel total allowable catch (TAC).
Attempts to reach a deal to end the long-running dispute have constantly been sidetracked because of Iceland's claim it is entitled to a bigger share of the mackerel TAC because the fish have moved into its waters in large numbers in recent years.
The recently announced scientific advice that the stock is healthy and growing and is expanding its range northwards led to an advised TAC for 2014 of almost 850,000 metric tons.
