Denmark’s fishing industry has changed dramatically in not many years as new ideas were taken on board and put to the test. It’s one of the things the Nordic countries are somehow able to do better; to grab a new idea, think it through and put it into action with a minimum of fuss.
A dozen years ago the Danish industry was very different. The sprawling pelagic sector in particular was in dire straits and the whitefish fleet was maybe less pressured, but still hemmed in with a deluge of rules, regulations, restrictions and the problem of not enough quota to share between a fleet which was in most cases struggling to break even.
