The vertically integrated Spanish company -- which sells canned tuna, sardines and other seafood under its Calvo, Nostromo and Gomes da Costa brands -- has some ambitious expansion plans beyond Spain, Italy and Brazil, its three core markets.
“For 2011, we are in talks with some Indian and Russian distributors to initiate operations in those countries,” Dario Chemerinski, managing director of Calvo’s international division, told IntraFish. “Hopefully, this year we will have completed the BRIC – Brazil, Russia, India and China -- expansion.”
