As the UK fishing industry reacts with furor against mainstream newspapers screaming headlines such as 'Just 100 mature cod left in North Sea', the German fishing industry is fighting back against non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that selectively highlight scientific fishing data to sway public opinion.
Matthias Keller, managing director at the German Fish Processors Association gave the following example to IntraFish, based on ICES data on Baltic Sea stock mortality in 2011:
"The Baltic Sea has 14 marine stocks, mainly herring, cod and plaice.
