Jacksonville, Florida based-Beacon Fisheries is rolling forward quickly to meet its growth and customer demands, and is retrofitting a new plant that will allow the company to process and freeze product.

The company, which was started in 1996, imports a range of fresh species, with grouper being the largest by volume. Beacon also brings in fresh snapper, swordfish and tuna, and large volumes of mahi mahi from the Pacific coast, Ecuador and other Central American countries.

With demand growing, Beacon expanded into frozen seafood imports as well, and today about 20-25 percent of its imports are frozen seafood, Mike Eddy, founder and owner of Beacon Fisheries, told IntraFish.
