This year’s infectious haematopoietic necrosis (IHN) virus outbreaks in the Canadian province of British Columbia have prompted all salmon farmers in the area – Grieg Seafood, Marine Harvest Canada and Cermaq subsidiary Mainstream Canada – to use the APEX IHN vaccine developed by Novartis Animal Health.
"They have all agreed to use (the vaccine) for all their fish,” Mary Ellen Walling, executive director for the B.C. Salmon Farmers Association, told IntraFish, referring to all three salmon farming companies in the province.
