Attendees at last week’s International Coldwater Prawn forum spoke at length about the threat warmwater species pose to their industry, China’s role in their decline – and what they need to do to stay in the game.

“Frankly, we are losing ground to warmwater shrimp on almost every front,” said Peter Matthews, a board member at Canadian seafood giant Clearwater.

“Is the coldwater shrimp industry just going to talk about our problems and quietly fade into insignificance as warmwater farmed shrimp pushes us to one side, or are we going to really start working together to find solutions?” Matthews said.
