Alaskan processors say a much larger than expected harvest in Bristol Bay, increased Russian fishing, and the potential for a historic run of reds in Fraser River is why they set base price of $1.20 (€0.88) per pound, instead of the estimated $1.85 (€1.36) per pound average.
Fishermen are hoping the more than 10 million fish landed above the pre-season projection of 17.9 million fish by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) will offset the 35 percent reduction in price.
