Disease ravaged the early days of Barramundi Asia's production, but loyal investors and several innovations later, the Singapore farm is ready for market.

Barramundi producer battles the odds

If anyone has ever doubted the dedication and determination of fish farmers, they should get themselves over to Singapore to speak to the guys from Barramundi Asia where setback after setback would have sent many others packing a long time ago.

“I lost all my hair in the process,” Farm Manager Erik Vis said of the six year process that -- at its worst -- saw production hit by 70 percent mortality.

The losses took the team of former Marine Harvest employees on a journey to create in-house vaccines and to build a hatchery and nursery and it finally looks like things are back on track.

Today, Barramundi Asia is on course to harvest 80 metric tons of barramundi per month by 2014.
