In routine tests of salmon muscle, one sample out of 58 tested was found to contain 19 micrograms per kilo of Ivermectin. According to the report from the Medicines Act Veterinary Information Service (MAVIS), the Ivermectin residue was found in salmon which was at the marketing stage.
The chemical is used to treat for sea lice infestations, but its use was banned in the UK three years ago, because of concerns over consumer safety. At that time, supermarkets were quick to ban any salmon which had been treated with ivermectin from their shelves.
