The flooded market -- which has caused prices for bream to drop 50 percent below production costs -- is putting a huge strain on Mediterranean companies and Greek firm Hellenic Fish Farming has already gone into administration.
“We predict that we are going to see some tremendous difficulties in the first quarter of next year and we can look out for a shortage at the end of 2009,” said Max Palladin, manager of Aquanord, one of France’s largest fish farms.
More control of the supply is needed to prevent this from happening at regular intervals, Palladin told IntraFish.
