News of Russia's ban on seafood imports from Europe, the United States, Norway and other countries was not just a shock outside of Russia: the news upended the Russian seafood processing industry as well.
"The stoppage is happening so suddenly, giving us no opportunity to to find alternatives to Norwegian suppliers of pelagics, salmon or trout," Yury Alasheev, chairman of the Russian Fish Union, a trade association representing several companies, told IntraFish.
As of Thursday, Alasheev has not heard of any shipments being stopped at the border, but expected that it could happen quickly.
