Unveiled Tuesday at the European Seafood Exposition in Brussels, the kingfish (Seriola lalandi), farmed by Clean Seas in the Spencer Gulf in south Australia, is being targeted at buyers in Germany, France and United Kingdom.

The Bavarian Alps-based Castell family has been farming, processing and smoking fish for several decades, but this is the first time it's attempted to push kingfish into supermarkets.

Anton Andreas Graf von Faber-Castell told IntraFish the product will be marketed at a similar price to high-quality smoked salmon portions at around €9 ($11.79)
