The Alaska Salmon Processors Association (ASPA) announced Thursday it is sharing its Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certificate with all Alaskan salmon processors through November 2018.

However, the processors will be required to pay ASPA 3 percent of the first wholesale price for fish harvested in 2015 or earlier.

"ASPA recognizes that this short term decision by the large processors to now associate with the MSC certificate is simply a short-term business decision," ASPA said in the statement.

"Their sole motivation is to quickly capture additional sales revenue and volumes recognizing their gains will result in commensurate losses to ASPA members."
