With Thailand and other countries continuing to battle Early Mortality Syndrome (EMS), growers in Ecuador have been able to increase production volumes and take advantage of the global shortage of product.

Halfway through the year, Ecuadorian shrimp producers have collectively exported nearly a quarter of a billion pounds and most are shipping more than last year, according to the country's National Chamber of Aquaculture President, Jose Antonio Camposano.

Between January and May, Ecuador exported almost 246 million pounds, Camposano told IntraFish. Thirty-six percent is going to the European Union, 30 percent to the United States and 27 percent to Asia.
