Argentina-based Newsan, a varied conglomerate which operates seafood export company Newsan Food, acquired fishing company Pesantar from the Japanese giant Nippon Suisan Kaisha (Nissui), according to Mar y Pesca.
"We just closed the deal and the 120 people at Pesantar are still employed by an Argentinian company so we're very happy," the Newsan Food Division Head Miguel Glikman said to Mar y Pesca.
Nissui is currently being investigated by the Argentine Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Agriculture and Fisheries after Pesantar Operations Manager Juan Benegas filed a complaint about the fishing vessel Union Sur for fishing in Falkland Islands last November, which violates Argentina's Federal Fisheries Act banning fishing companies and groups from operating in Argentina and Falkland Islands simultaneously.
