Since announcing its open-ocean tilapia farm project in Panama last year, US-based Aquasense International Corp has been gaining traction on the site, a first of its kind, James Reilly, president and CEO of the company, told IntraFish.
The site, located in the Gulf of Panama, commenced site preparation in mid-April, earlier than originally scheduled thanks to some seed money. Aquasense is working on installing monitoring devices and sending scuba divers to survey the sea bottom since it sits on a ledge.
