Yellowtail for the Netherlands
The fish is already consumed in the Dutch market in high-end sushi and sashimi restaurants and gets prices of €20 ($27.55) per kilo when imported.
Now Ainhoa Blanco Garcia and her team are seeing if it can be farmed domestically in RAS systems.
Already growing out on a commercial scale in the premises of a Dutch turbot farm, the research team are now looking to see if they can improve production, including reducing the fish’s 60 percent fishmeal diet.
