After visiting two Thai Union Frozen Products-backed shrimp farms last week, analysts at Bualuang Securities believe the Thai shrimp industry bottomed out in the first half of 2013 and is now "in recovery mode."

The early mortality syndrome (EMS) is expected to cause a 50 percent, or 250,000 metric tons, drop in Thailand’s shrimp production this year.

However, survival rates and productivity in Thailand have improved by 10-15 percent since mid-year, said Bualuang.

"Shrimp farmers now have an improved success rate at dealing with EMS disease," the brokerage said in an update Monday.
