It’s no secret to industry insiders that Chilean salmon farmers are struggling financially as a year of anemic prices comes to a close.
Analysts told IntraFish 2013 is likely to hold at least one to three acquisitions, if not more, with medium to large size players as possible targets.
“We’re seeing quite a significant loss for the Chilean producers, so any of these farmers are in difficult financial solutions and are obliged to find solutions both because of bank pressure and supplier pressure,” Kjetil Lye, an analyst with Handelsbanken Capital Markets, told IntraFish.
