“If the many bank bosses with interests in Pan Fish in 2003 had known how poor a condition the company was in when Eide started the turnaround process, they would have declared the company bankrupt,” First Securities salmon analyst Aslak Berge told IntraFish.

“But that didn’t happen -- which gives you an idea of Eide’s persuasive powers and achievement,” said Berge, who wrote a book on the rise and fall of Pan Fish during the Arne Nore period.

Eide took on responsibility not just for Marine Harvest, but also for the entire salmon industry, Berge said.
