With Europe in recession, it may seem ludicrous to expect markets there to pull up prices for any seafood product, but that is exactly what Chilean salmon farmers are doing, according to Ignacio Spencer, a market analyst for IM Trust.
“Their commercial efforts currently are being all focused on Europe in an effort to re-establish commercial relationships with their former European clients,” Spencer told IntraFish.
Norwegian farmed salmon prices have been somewhat unscathed by the price turmoil Chilean and North American salmon has experienced this year, making it smart to try placing fish alongside Norwegian salmon.
