Global feed production is expected to hit 1 billion metric tons this year, but while aquaculture feed may be one of the smallest sectors, representing roughly 4 percent, it's also the fastest growing, according to Alltech's recently released 2014 Global Feed Survey.

Since 2012, aqua feed global production has grown 34.7 percent from 29.7 million metric tons to 40 million metric tons, the report states.

Alltech's Vice President, Aidan Connolly, said increasing costs of raw materials stunted aqua feed's production. With decreasing costs for raw materials expected this year, aqua feed production is only going to grow further.
