Sverre Soraa, leader of the Salmon Project in Norway, which is mainly concerned with getting the European Commission to realize there are no grounds for the proposed punitive measures against the Norwegian salmon industry, is irritated over the fact Russian measurements of heavy metals in Norwegian salmon do not comply with normal official criteria, which in turn results in unfortunate media headlines across the globe.
Standardized measuring methods that apply all over the world are naturally an important measure. But those players that are out to fire a salvo at the aquaculture industry, for whatever motive, do not pay much attention to official criteria.

An industry vulnerable to external threats
The general conception of security in the aquaculture industry should be redefined, and thought should be given to establishing a separate global vulnerability committee, whose sole purpose would be to chart the external threats the industry can be exposed to.
