Atlantic salmon farming company AquaChile already knows the benefits of adding algae and fermented yeast to its feed, but Kentucky-based animal nutrition company Alltech is spending big in hopes to expand its customer base in South America.

Last week, the company announced it was building a $63 million (€46.4 million) algae production plant alongside its yeast facility in Indaiatuba, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

The company hopes construction is just the beginning as it works to partner with some of the largest aquaculture and pet food companies, such as Nestle, in South America, according to Guilherme Minozzo, Alltech’s vice president of Latin America.
