Algeria's Ministry of Fishing and Fishery Resources and the South Korean International Cooperation Agency last week launched a $5 million joint program to promote Algerian competitiveness in the fishing and aquaculture sector.

The program will last until 2017 and focuses on the industry in fish farming field, particularly shrimp farming, Mustapha Lagha, secretary general of the ministry, said in a meeting between Algerian and South Korean executives, according to AllAfrica.

It will allow ministry officials, fishermen and private investors to benefit from the South Korean experience in terms of diversifying and increasing fishing resources and developing natural sites for young fish.
