In a letter to the fisheries ministry in late October, Alfesca said it is seeking to investigate the impact of salmon farming on the environment.

“We are trying to gather all available information to study the effects that aquaculture has on the environment,” the letter read.

Also in the letter, Alfesca points out that environmental issues are an important current topic -- not least in light of a recent French television program on sea lice treatment.

The company -- which also recently sold its Spanish salmon smokehouse Vensy Espana -- asked about surveys on marine farming environmental monitoring, water quality and measurements of water quality, and enquired how fish farms are investigated and what parameters apply to the locations of plants.
