Sustainable Fisheries Partnership (SFP) announced Wednesday significant improvement in the Moroccan sardine fishery improvement project (FIP), which now has the highest 'A' progress rating on the SFP Fishsource database.

The FIP's scores on the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) FIP benchmark tool greatly increased in its two years of operation. The fishery hopes to become MSC certified in a few years.

Improvements include onboard scientific observers and efforts to establish new harvest control rules.

The FIP was initiated by the Aldi South Group and suppliers Clama, Lovering Foods and Otto Franck.
