Alaska's MSC reversal shows power of EU buyers, German exec says

Kathrin Runge, marketing director at Gottfried Friedrichs -- one of the Marine Stewardship Council's (MSC's) biggest advocates in Germany -- said the decision of several Alaska processors to resume selling their products as certified to the MSC standard is a lucky turn of events for European buyers.

While the details have yet to be decided, Runge told IntraFish it showed the EU market "has a purchasing power" that influences these decisions.

"We are also lucky that it's expected to be another large salmon run in Alaska," she said.
