The council is meeting in Anchorage, Alaska, until Dec. 12. According to the agenda, the council will likely vote on finalizing the quota by Sunday.
Earlier this fall, there was speculation the pollock quota would be cut by as much as 13 percrent to 14 percent to protect the species, which is the world’s most-consumed whitefish.
In October, officials announced the preliminary U.S. Alaska pollock quota for 2007 would be down 4.5 percent to 1.419 million metric tons. The final decision now is expected to be a double-digit percent reduction.
