A delegation representing the interests of Alaska’s salmon industry will meet with representatives of Walmart on Sept. 5 at the retailer’s Bentonville, Arkansas, headquarters to try to convince the company to stock wild Alaska salmon not certified by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC).

Earlier this summer, Walmart sent a letter to its wild salmon suppliers reminding them the source fishery for wild salmon must be certified sustainable to the MSC standard or equivalent, or actively working toward certification.

Walmart, however, has not yet determined any other standard to be equivalent to the MSC, said the letter.
