Are we entering anti-trust land? That’s what some folks in the Alaska salmon industry and elsewhere are asking about the current standoff between The Alaska Salmon Processors Association (ASPA), which is the client for the Alaska salmon Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) certification, and a group of 10 processors who, after fleeing the MSC salmon clientship in 2012, now want back in.

This is no small matter. The 10 processors on the sidelines -- Alaska General Seafoods, Icicle Seafoods, Kwikpak Fisheries, Leader Creek Fisheries, North Pacific Seafoods, Ocean Beauty, Peter Pan Seafoods, Triad Fisheries, Trident Seafoods, and Yukon Gold --  represent an estimated 70 percent of the wild Alaska salmon supply.
