Alaska's major salmon suppliers have pulled their support for the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) eco-label program, and will not seek recertification of Alaska salmon products under the MSC.
The Alaska Fisheries Development Foundation (AFDF), which represents Alaska salmon suppliers in the MSC certification program, said Tuesday it has received letters from eight major primary salmon processors advising AFDF the processors are phasing out their financial support for the MSC salmon certification program.
Collectively, these processors account for approximately 72 percent of the Alaska salmon harvest.
