The 10 Alaska salmon processors hoping to rejoin the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) program announced Thursday they would pay client group Alaska Salmon Processors Association (ASPA) and Purse Seine Vessel Owners Association (PSVOA) the full costs of certification and annual audits to the standard going back to 2012, when the group first financed the certification as an offer to use the group's certification.
"This approach is intended to expedite negotiations since a fight over equitable distribution of costs is not necessary if new entrants are willing to absorb 100 percent," Trident Seafoods' Stefanie Moreland told IntraFish.
