The Alaska Salmon Processors Association (ASPA) on Tuesday released a letter to the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) outlining its rules for dividing costs within the client group amid frustration that the group has so far not allowed major competitors to share the certificate.

In a letter submitted to the MSC, ASPA said its client group will be limited to commercial salmon fishermen and processors operating within the unit of certification it identified as being covered by the MSC certificate which, so far, includes the majority of the state's commercial salmon harvest with the exception of Prince William Sound, where hatchery supplementation remains a barrier to assessment.
