Alaska Gov. Bill Walker's proposed to raise taxes on state industries, including fisheries, to help close a budget gap of $4.1 billion (€3.6 billion) was stalled at a House Finance Committee hearing by public opposition, according to the Alaska Journal of Commerce.
Walker's proposal would raise landings taxes and fisheries taxes by 1 percent each, but the amended bill, which is before the House, would raise all but the shore-based salmon cannery sector and the developing fisheries sector by 1 percent, according to the news site.
