Harvesters of Alaska pollock roe are hopeful the success of the "A" season will continue to yield good fortune with the start of the annual auction.
Companies began showcasing their roe Tuesday as buyers and representatives, mainly from Japan, will inspect and grade the products before giving out a price for each in the following days.
Industry sources told IntraFish the average fish size has been larger, about 750 grams, since the majority of fishing for the season has come from the North East as opposed to the last five years when most vessels were catching in the Pribilof Islands.
