The North Pacific Fishery Management Council (NPFMC) on Friday set the Bering Sea and Aleutian Islands (BSAI) Alaska pollock total allowable catch (TAC) at 1.267 million metric tons for the 2014 season, a 1.6 percent rise over this year’s quota and a sign that the health of the stock is trending upward.

The TAC was in-line with recommendations made by the NPFMC Groundfish Plan Team of scientific advisors in November, but slightly lower than industry requests of 1.28 million metric tons.
