A group of Alaska commercial fishing organizations is scheduled to protest Wednesday at a Walmart in Anchorage, Alaska, demanding the retail giant change its policy so the store can buy Alaska salmon.
The protest comes a day before Alaska officials travel to Bentonville, Arkansas, to meet with Walmart executives to discuss what can be done to convince Walmart to accept salmon certified sustainable under the state-supported Responsible Fisheries Management (RFM) certification program.
The retailer announced earlier this year that it would not source salmon unless it had the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) stamp of approval.
