The Norwegian fisheries sector has been affected by seasonal fluctuations, but a redistribution of its haddock quota means fishermen on Aker Seafoods’ refrigerated trawlers can look forward to a sizeable ”Christmas bonus."
Since the crew is paid 30 percent of the catch value, an increase in the quota of almost 20 percent provides a hefty boost.
Under new regulations, it is now possible to fish 60 metric tons per quota, and Aker Seafoods’ trawler fleet’s structure is such that most of the boats are able to fish an extra 120 metric tons of haddock.
