In 2000, Aker Seafoods started a project with their co-operating partners on the Faroe Islands where the intention was to raise the value of the blue whiting fishing, and now Aker Seafoods director Trond Williksen is declaring the project to have been a success.
“The projects are lucrative, and onboard our surimi-producing factory trawler 'Atlantic Navigator' we are employing more people, including many women, than that employed by the entire Faroese blue whiting fleet,” said Williksen in his address at the ”Pelagic Days” event held in Bergen, Norway this week.
