Processors in Iceland were buying less fish because they could not export the products by air and so more fish were being put into containers for export to the Humber.
This caused prices in Grimsby to “collapse” in the port on Monday, said Martyn Boyers of Grimsby Fish Dock Enterprises, which runs the Grimsby auction market.
On Monday last week Grimsby had 1,200 boxes, while on Monday this week some 3,800 boxes were on the market. An average Monday is about 2,800-3,000 boxes.
