AFDF, which took over as client for the MSC certification in February from the Alaska Department of Fish & Game, collected fees from the 43 Alaska processors that hold MSC chain-of-custody certifications.
The organization had a goal of collecting $200,000 (€145,900) but took in more than that, and will refund the excess to the processors that contributed, Jim Browning, AFDF executive director, told IntraFish on Tuesday. The money will be distributed on a pro-rata basis, since company contributions ranged from $500 (€365) to $20,000 (€14,600), depending on the size of the processor.
