These days, with Norwegian aquaculture growth at 30 percent and Alaskan wild salmon up 40 percent, Chile is giving a gentle reminder the tables have turned.
“Remember: If we in Chile hadn’t had our biological problems, our growth rate would have been 20 percent this year,” said Josen Ramon Gutierres, principal shareholder in Multiexport, Chile’s fourth-largest salmon producer.
“What level would prices have been at then?”
It's easy to see why Gutierres is worried, and there are more than a few Norwegian salmon producers who share his anxiety.
