To mark the festive season, I thought this week I would round off the year with something different and try out my (doubtful) poetic skills in this fairy tale vision of a Christmas morning in the marine sector.

Around the Christmas tree they waited,

The family of Fishing, Aquaculture and Seafood, breaths abated,

Waiting hard to see what Santa put under the tree,

For these poor children of struggling industry.

Fishing, more quotas he wanted most,

To be able to catch the fish to allow him boast.

To earn a living in peace and quiet,

Without fear of a struggling working diet.

Aquaculture had only a simple wish,

To be given powers to develop in bliss,

Without licensing laws at every turn,

And set fire to the thousands of regulations -- watch them burn.

While quietly Seafood did only desire,

That Fishing and Aquaculture got their wish and set their hearts afire.

For if their wishes were to come true,

Then the Seafood industry would not be blue.

Alas and alack, all came...
