The value of US seafood imports dropped  a whopping 10 percent in January compared to a year ago, slipping to $1.64 billion (€1.47 billion).

The United States imported 252,970 metric tons of seafood in January, a 2.3 percent drop compared to the first month of 2015, according to the latest figures from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).

The United States brought in 49,969 metric tons of shrimp worth $441.4 million (€396.1 million), or 20 percent of overall seafood import volume and 27 percent of overall seafood import value.
